Bio-Broker: a biological data and services mediator system
نویسندگان
چکیده
Diversity, dispersion and heterogeneity in data and services strongly constraint the integrated exploitation of biological data. Bio-Broker, an XML-based architectural framework, aims to assist systems developers in the construction of mediator-services. The unique characteristic of the platform is its ability to manage software tools and algorithms to allow dynamic, flexible and intuitive “wiring” of new services expanding the functionality and enabling the easy incorporation of new procedures to customize the system for specific concerns. The mediator offers a view of the system as a single data source where EVASs (Extended Valued Added Services) are readily available for enhancing query processing. A diverse set of applications that combine gene expression and genomic data are used to demonstrate the usefulness of the mediator system.

Bio-Broker: a tool for integration of biological data sources and data analysis tools
In this work we present an architecture for XML-based mediator systems and a framework for helping systems developers in the construction of mediator-services for the integration of heterogeneous data sources. A unique feature of our architecture is its capability to manage (proprietary) user’s software tools and algorithms, modelled as Extended Value Added Services (EVASs), and integrated in t...
متن کاملWrapping and Interoperating Bioinformatics Resources Using
Bioinformaticians seeking to provide services to working biologists are faced with the twin problems of distribution and diversity of resources. Bioinformatics databases are distributed around the world and exist in many kinds of storage forms, platforms, and access paradigms. To provide adequate services to biologists, these distributed and diverse resources have to interoperate seamlessly wit...
متن کاملTowards a Geospatial Catalogue Federation Service
As geospatial catalogues are becoming accessible online through public query interfaces, a federation to fulfill distributed and integrated metadata discovery needs to be built. This study investigates the feasibility of federating three distinct geospatial catalogue services: the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) ClearingHOuse (ECHO), the George Mason University (GMU) OpenGIS Catalogue Service...
متن کاملA CORBA-based Approach to Data and Systems Integration for 3D Geoscientific Applications
Today’s geo-information systems are not open enough to provide a required level of data and systems integration. In this paper we introduce an approach to dataand systemintegration which is based on the common object request broker architecture (CORBA), which allows for various applications to exchange data as objects. As a result not only data but also data processing methods can be made acces...
متن کاملDesign and implementation of a CORBA-based genome mapping system prototype
MOTIVATION CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture), as an open standard, is considered to be a good solution for the development and deployment of applications in distributed heterogeneous environments. This technology can be applied in the bioinformatics area to enhance utilization, management and interoperation between biological resources. RESULTS This paper investigates issues i...
